RENTING AT LANDALE COURT BOUGHT US OUR FREEDOM

“The flexibility of renting has given us the freedom to enjoy our retirement without worries” explains Peter.
After living in their countryside three-bedroom home for 27 years, the challenges of maintaining a remote property began to mount following a short illness. "We had a detached bungalow in the middle of nowhere – which was our dream all those years ago – but, like everyone, we aged and it became increasingly difficult. The reasons why we initially moved had changed and we accepted the need to change again."
Peter, 78, and Bernie, 81, listed managing a private lane, private water supplies and the running of a septic tank as factors becoming additional sources of stress, prompting the couple to look for a more convenient lifestyle. “And we certainly found that at Landale Court. If we ever need any help or anything fixing, it’s just a pop over to reception – life is so much simpler renting!” exclaimed Peter.
In a twist of fate, it was the estate agent selling their bungalow who’d listened to everything the couple were looking for and recommended they visit her friend who worked at Landale Court. Peter continued: “It was just meant to be. As soon as we visited I knew this would be our home. Bernie did initially have reservations that we were early movers to the development, but four years on we live in a bustling community that’s just perfect for us. We can socialise with all our likeminded friends or just close our door when we fancy a quiet day. The balance is just wonderful.
"The best thing about renting is freedom. We have a 30-day clause, so if something doesn’t go right, you can move out. We’re over four years in so obviously Landale Court gets it right! We’d suggest rental in retirement to everyone - it’s so freeing!"
Renting also unlocked a financial strategy for Peter and Bernie. By investing the capital from their bungalow sale rather than buying again, they generated steady returns to fund their lifestyle.
"We did consider buying but an article in the Times about rental in retirement changed our minds - if you invest your purchase amount, that’s a big chunk of interest towards your rental costs – it buys us financial flexibility."
Peter and Bernie both agree rental removes day-to-day worries and moving to Landale Court has bought them life in a worry-free community.
“Moving from isolation to a community brought unexpected joy too.” Peter continued. “Our second-floor landing has become a social hub for our friends, and each day at 4pm a group of us gather for tea and chocolate biscuits. We host and we all put the world to rights!”
The combination of zero maintenance worries, travel flexibility, and easy socialising has made the transition seamless.
"When we want to go away on holiday, we can go any day we like! We just tell reception we’re going away and there’s nothing else to sort out. We’ve rented here for freedom, and this is our home and we love it - we honestly have no regrets at all.
“I have run out of chocolate biscuits though – so I’d better get to the shop before our 4pm meet.” Chuckled Peter as he happily concludes, “It seems rental buys not only freedom but a lifetime supply of chocolate biscuits – priceless!”
