LOCAL SCHOOL CHILDREN THANKED FOR CREATING AN AMAZING 159 PIECES OF BUNTING FOR RESIDENTS AT BUTTON HOUSE IN HACKBRIDGE
29 May 2025
Staff and residents at Brio Retirement Living development, Button House in Hackbridge, were amazed to receive a phenomenal 159 pieces of handmade bunting, all created by talented pupils at Hackbridge Primary School, to help decorate their retirement development for its recent VE Day celebrations.
The children who are well known to the team and residents at Button House – with some having Grandparents living within the development – created an array of bunting which the team hung up for everyone to admire. The children designed their bunting with many heartfelt images to commemorate the 80th anniversary of VE Day earlier this month.
Karl Mlynarczyk, General Manager at Button House, shared: “We do lots of nice activities with the local primary school and we set up this little competition expecting a handful of entries that we could display on one wall, so to receive 159 pieces of bunting was a delightful surprise! Obviously, this made our decision much harder as they were all so creative, but the residents finally chose three winners who we invited to come to collect prizes of Slate & Grain vouchers and supersized art sets.
“We thanked Nathan, who took third place, for his ‘Peace, Kindness and a Dove’ design, Eileen, who came second, for her ‘Union Jack with RAF plane and soldiers’ piece, and Francesca who came first with her ‘Globe of Friendship’ themed bunting. It’s been a joy to look at every design and made our day extra special to have them hung on display. Both the team and the residents here at Button House are very thankful for all the children’s efforts.”
